#11 Catalogue some books in Library thing

A widget! more jargon. And I had thought a widget was something inside a can of drink......
It was very easy to do this search box from Library Thing- thanks to Christopher who created it! Now, just have to put it somewhere useful! Having fun anyway - and feeling guilty because it doesn't seem like work! AT first didn't think I would spend toomuch time collating a list of books - but on second thoughts it would be handy to remember all the books I have read over the years.



Now I have 5 books on my list.... Couldn't seem to put my catalogue on my blog....the blog would not accept the html I pasted...so I'll just put the link here, as I'm running out of time. Will get back and try to master it after I've completed Learning 23 things.

#9 Locate some interesting library related blogs and newsfeeds

Came across numerous blogs on Wikis. Debate rages on whether Wikipedia is a reliable source and a university lecturer preaches that it should not be solely relied upon for accurate content. It is taking a pummeling from competitors. An alternative to emerge recently is Digital Universe - offering portals such topics as the Cosmos, Human Rights and the Artic. Paid experts will oversee the creation of content, and editors will approve other editors. A blogger claims that it offers a way to finding a cure for Chronic Information Fatigue! You will be able to type in your age to retrieve "age specific" information.....scary! At my age I'm inclined to lie about it!!

lso from LooneyNews.com, I found a debate over Dewey. A library in Arizona has dropped the Dewey decimal system for subject headings that more resemble a bookstore. A librarian wrote that she wasn't not necessarily a fan of DDS, but that she couldn't find what she was looking for at most big name bookstores.

#8 Learn about RSS feeds and creat your own Bloglines Newsreader account

Finally I see how RSS feeds could be useful in my professional and personal life. I actually created a Bloglines account a few months ago at the urging of a colleague. I rediscovered it, and added more feeds and tags. Now will get feeds when local breaking news is added, and when cool photos are posted on Flickr of the beautiful coastline at my hometown. See at left the convict built Bogey hole on a rather wild day. (I don't recommend a swim when it's like this!)

#6 Discover Flickr mashups and third party sites

Mashups and third parties....well I'm not sure where I fit into all this but I'veread up on them, and encountered lots of jargon, which I'm sure will all fall into place as I progress. I've registed with Amazon Web services, but am not sure what I need to do with it! (I think it's an age thing..)

Due to sick leave and holidays I've fallen further behind, unable to zoom through like hi tech super beings that have finished. Nevertherless I am soldiering on....

#5 Learning about Flickr

It wasn't so hard after all, adding an image to my blog. Images of the Pasha Bulker abound on the web, and Flickr was no exception. On the left, see the latest tourist attraction in Newcastle attractively silhouetted at sunrise, and as we speak it remains held fast on the rocks, although facing in a different direction, as from last night.
